FAQs
Why is regular toilet paper bad for the environment?
Regular toilet paper releases 65% more carbon emissions than bamboo toilet paper, and wipes out 27,000 trees a day. Also, the bleaching used in regular white toilet paper is most commonly chlorine-bleach, which releases harmful toxins into our waterways and damages marine species. That’s why bazoo’s bleaching method is TCF (totally chlorine free), and considered the most sustainable bleaching method for paper.
Why is bamboo better for the environment?
Bamboo plants grow a lot quicker than trees (up to 3ft in one day!). Bamboo absorbs 30% more CO2 than trees, and produces 35% more oxygen. It is also needs a lot less water, and no fertiliser or irrigation to grow.
What does it mean to be carbon negative?
It means we have calculated all the CO2 emissions from when the bamboo seed is planted until the box is delivered to your door. And then we offset all of those emissions twice over (200%). Head over to our carbon negative page here to learn more.
Why did we choose to become carbon negative?
We think it’s our responsibility to take care of our carbon footprint here at Bazoo first.
Where is bazoo’s bamboo made and produced?
The bamboo naturally grows in China, where it is also manufactured. Unfortunately, bamboo is not yet grown commercially anywhere closer to the UK - hence why we offset 200% of our emissions. We are moving our manufacturing to Europe however, in 2023! More info to come.
Is this bamboo the same that pandas eat?
No it is not, the pandas eat a different species of bamboo!
Why do we bleach some of our toilet paper?
We did our research and realised a lot of people still like their toilet paper white – and that’s totally fine. But we do use the most sustainble bleach possible, TCF (totally chlorine-free bleach), which is produced naturally by plants and animals, and used only in very weak concentrations.
Why the individual wrappers?
We wrap some of our rolls individually in recycled wrappers in order to keep them moisture-free and easy to store. And the animal facts are an added bonus to spread awareness about threatened species impacted by climate change!
Why is there one wrapped toilet paper in my unwrapped/naked box?
We've done this so all our customers get at least one wrapped roll they can put on display to showcase to their family, friends and guests. This helps spread our message further of saving the environment; one roll at a time.
What does FSC certified mean?
It means all of our bamboo comes from and is made with 100% Forest Stewardship Council approved forest-based materials. Our certificate gets renewed every year to make sure our bamboo forests, factories and their employees are still being looked after to the correct standard.
Is bamboo or recycled toilet-paper more eco-friendly?
Recycled toilet paper uses 30% more carbon emissions than bamboo toilet paper. Due to the processes required to recycle toilet paper much more heat, water, chemicals and energy are used. So bamboo is definitely better for the atmosphere, us and the animals!
What is our packaging made from?
Our paper wrappers are made from recycled paper, all our cardboard is made from recycled materials (even the inner core of our toilet rolls), our printed text on the box is soy-based ink and it’s all secured together with paper tape! Zero plastic.
Is bazoo’s packaging completely plastic free?
Absolutely! Our paper wrappers are made from recycled paper, all our cardboard is made from recycled materials (even the inner core of your toilet roll), our printed text on the box is soy-based ink and it’s all secured together with paper tape! We don’t like plastic.
Is bamboo suitable for sensitive skin?
Definitely! Bamboo has naturally hypoallergenic properties and with our no chlorine-bleach rolls there are no nasty chemicals. The bamboo also has long fibres which trap less dust, meaning less irritation.
Why do we offer unbleached and bleached toilet paper?
After researching, we found a lot of people liked unbleached but also a lot still liked the usual white. So, we wanted to give the option of both and keep everyone smiling! And we bleach our rolls with chlorine-free bleach in weak concentrations.
How do our prices compare to other brands?
Our Bazoo rolls contain 300 sheets vs other competitors such as Andrex and The Cheeky Panda rolls contain 150-200 sheets. Bazoo rolls start from 25p per 100 sheets vs 41p per 100 sheets with other brands. On average families save over £50 a year buying Bazoo!

Is bamboo toilet paper suitable for septic tanks and composting toilets?
Our bamboo toilet paper is indeed suitable for both, and all other waste systems. We’ve trialled and tested our disintegration successfully (check out our video on instagram here)!

How is our toilet paper transported from China?
Our bamboo toilet paper is shipped from China to the UK via ocean freight, before being delivered to our warehouse by road transport. We know that’s a long way, so we calculated all our carbon emissions and offset 200% of them. This simply means we offset more CO2 than we emit. Click here to find out more. We are moving manufacturers to Europe in 2023 so stay tuned!
