Why is regular toilet paper bad for the environment?

Regular toilet paper releases 65% more carbon emissions than bamboo toilet paper, and wipes out 27,000 trees a day. Also, the bleaching used in regular white toilet paper is most commonly chlorine-bleach, which releases harmful toxins into our waterways and damages marine species. That’s why bazoo’s bleaching method is TCF (totally chlorine free), and considered the most environmentally friendly bleaching methods for paper.

Why is bamboo better for the environment?

Bamboo is a super-plant (not a tree) for many reasons. Most importantly, bamboo plants grow a lot quicker (up to 3ft in one day!) and can be harvested within 3-5 years in comparison to hardwood trees taking 30-60 years. Bamboo absorbs 30% more CO2 than trees, and produces 35% more oxygen. It is also very weather durable, and needs no fertiliser, pesticides or irrigation to help it grow.

What does it mean to be carbon negative?

Carbon negative is the same as being climate positive. Put simply it means we have calculated all our company’s CO2 emissions and we are currently taking out more CO2 from the atmosphere than we are putting in. Head over to our carbon negative page here to learn more.

Why did we choose to become carbon negative?

We think it’s our responsibility to take care of our carbon footprint from the outset and not have the future worry about trying to reverse or undo damage done to our atmosphere and climate.

Where is bazoo’s bamboo made and produced?

Our bamboo is grown and manufactured in China. It grows there naturally in abundance, and is produced in a factory close-by. Unfortunately, bamboo is not yet grown commercially anywhere in Europe, so we have to get it from quite far away - but that is why we are carbon negative certified! This means we offset more carbon emissions than we emit throughout our entire supply chain process (from growing the bamboo, to the moment it’s delivered to your door). Both the bamboo and factory are also 100% FSC certified, and ensure good treatment and payment of the employees – head to https://fsc.org/en/for-people/workers for more information.

Is this bamboo the same that pandas eat?

No it is not, the pandas eat a different species of bamboo!

Why do we bleach some of our toilet paper?

After extensive market research we realised a lot of people still want their toilet paper to be white – and that’s totally fine! That’s why we use the most environmentally free bleach possible, TCF (totally chlorine-free bleach), which is produced naturally by plants and animals, and used only in very weak concentrations.

Why the individual wrappers?

We wrap some of our rolls individually in recycled wrappers in order to allow customers to keep their rolls moisture-free, hygienic and bacteria-free. Environmentally speaking, it also uses less paper to individually wrap each toilet paper than if they were wrapped together in packs of 4, 6, 9 or bigger! And we thought why not learn some facts and spread awareness about threatened species and climate change while we’re at it!

Why is there one wrapped toilet paper in my unwrapped/naked box?

Good question! We’ve done this so that all customers get at least one wrapped roll which they can put on display to showcase to their family, friends and guests. This means you can help to spread our message further and get us closer to our goal of saving the environment, one roll at a time.

What does FSC certified mean?

It means we have made sure that all of our bamboo comes from and is made with 100% Forest Stewardship Council approved forest-based materials. Our certificate gets renewed every year to make sure our bamboo forests, factories and their employees are still being looked after to the correct standard.

Is bamboo or recycled toilet-paper more eco-friendly?

Recycled toilet paper uses 30% more carbon emissions than bamboo toilet paper. That’s because the process required to recycle toilet paper requires more heat, water, chemicals and energy; that’s a whole lot of avoidable carbon emissions. So bamboo is definitely better for the atmosphere, us and the animals!

What is our packaging made from?

Ready for the long list? Our paper wrappers are made from recycled paper, all our cardboard is made from recycled materials (even the inner core of your toilet roll), our printed text on the box and wrappers is soy-based ink and it’s all secured together with paper tape! Zero plastic.

Is bazoo’s packaging completely plastic free?

Absolutely! Our paper wrappers are made from recycled paper, all our cardboard is made from recycled materials (even the inner core of your toilet roll), our printed text on the box and wrappers is soy-based ink and it’s all secured together with paper tape! We don’t like plastic.

Is bamboo suitable for sensitive skin?

Definitely! We’ve trialled and tested it ourselves. Bamboo has naturally hypoallergenic properties for the most sensitive of skins, and with our no chlorine-bleach, inks or dyes there should be no irritation coming into contact with your skin. The bamboo toilet paper also has smooth and long fibres which trap less dust, meaning less irritation!

Why do we offer unbleached and bleached toilet paper?

We’re currently the only UK company to stock both TCF bleached and unbleached toilet paper. Why? Because after lots of market research, although a proportion of people liked unbleached, a lot of people found the colour off-putting – which is totally fine! So, we thought why not give our customers the option to choose and keep everyone smiling. (Especially as our bleached rolls are totally chlorine-free, TCF, which is produced naturally by plants and animals and used in very weak concentrations).

How do our prices compare to other brands?

We’ve tried hard to keep our prices competitive. We are also delivering you quality with a lot more quantity! Our bazoo rolls contain 300 sheets, whereas other competitors such as Andrex and The Cheeky Panda rolls contain 150-200 sheets! That means when you buy bazoo rolls you are paying from 25p per 100 sheets when purchasing once off vs paying approximately 41p per 100 sheets with other brands (see our price comparison chart on our product pages for reference). Don’t’ forget you can always save extra when you subscribe! Our prices also include free delivery of course.

Our bamboo toilet paper is shipped from China all the way to the UK via ocean freight, before being delivered to our warehouse by road transport.
