Tips To Create A Sustainable Bathroom

Tips To Create A Sustainable Bathroom

The bathroom may be one of the smallest rooms in your house but it’s definitely up there with producing the highest amount of waste and being stocked full of single-use plastic.

So many bathroom products are supplied in single-use plastic containers and it has become normal societal behaviour to have cupboards full of products that use, are stored in, or contain plastic - it’s almost impossible to think of something that doesn’t!

It’s time to take a step back and realise how much preventable waste comes from our bathrooms. Here is a list of 5 of our favourite eco-friendly bathroom products (with a bonus for the ladies out there!) so that you can make the necessary swaps to have a sustainable bathroom.

1. Bamboo toilet paper

We made it our mission here at Bazoo to create a toilet roll that wouldn’t involve any plastic. All of the materials we use are sustainably sourced and we have a strict zero plastic policy throughout our entire manufacturing and storage process. Also, because Bazoo is a carbon negative company, you can be assured that when you buy the tree-free rolls, you are helping shift your consumer habits towards sustainability and taking responsibility for your emissions when wiping.

2. Bamboo toothbrush

The average person goes through 4 toothbrushes per year, meaning millions end up in landfill every year. Regular toothbrushes are also made from 100% single-use plastic. Bamboo toothbrushes are a great alternative, they only take 6 months to biodegrade and are an easy, affordable swap. We love tooth.eco for eco-friendly but great quality toothbrushes.

3. Shampoo, conditioner and soap bars

So many of our bathrooms are cluttered with plastic bottles of lotions and potions; it is estimated that 552 million bottles end up in landfill every year. One way to combat this is soap bars - these bars come in a variety of shapes and sizes, meaning you’ll be able to find an alternative to your current favourites. We love the Clean U soap bars. The best part is, once you’ve used them up, there is nothing to throw away!

4. Metal razor

Many razors that are sold are mostly single-use plastic, sold in plastic packaging and labelled ‘disposable’ - made with the sole intention of being disposed of after a few uses. An alternative is to buy a razor that has a wooden or metal handle and replacement blades like the ones made by FFS. If taken care of, these can last a lifetime and will save a razor being thrown away every time you shave.

5. Reusable cotton pads

It is estimated that 1.3 billion wipes are thrown away every day. One easy swap is to buy washcloths or reusable cotton pads that can be used, washed and reused, like these ones from Moonie. If you love your cotton pads and don’t want to have to wash cloths after every use, bamboo rounds are a great alternative.

6. Eco-friendly menstrual products

Did you know the average woman will use over 11,000 disposable, single-use sanitary products in her lifetime? The good thing is, more and more environmentally-friendly alternatives are becoming available to help you have a ‘greener’ period. You can now choose from reusable menstrual cups, panty liners, and reusable sanitary pads. We love TOTM products and their subscription aligns with your individual cycle - awesome!

We love being part of your sustainable bathrooms here at Bazoo,  and we have tried to make the swap to eco-friendly toilet paper as easy as possible by being as affordable as other leading brands and by offering a subscription service (that you can edit whenever) so you never run out! Check out our rolls here and make a small change in your bathroom today...
