How fast does Bamboo grow?

Bamboo has become one of the most important materials to the eco-movement, with more and more products being made from bamboo. But what is it about bamboo that makes it so great?

Bamboo is a highly versatile material, it is strong and robust, whilst its fibres are superior to cotton due to their natural anti-bacterial properties. This means that our rolls are not only a lot kinder to the environment but also to your skin!

Bamboo also grows very fast, which makes it a sustainable option for many household products including toilet rolls.

One of the most notable selling points of bamboo is how fast it grows. Bamboo is one of the fastest-growing plants on earth, with some species growing up to 3ft in one day.

Bamboo grows almost 30x faster than regular hardwood trees. This means that bamboo is ready to be harvested in just 3-5 years, compared to the 30-60 years that it takes regular trees to be ready.

This means that, when using bamboo to make bamboo products, the entire harvesting process is quicker, more efficient (meaning less land is used for more produce), and uses the land much more sustainably.

Bamboo also requires fewer resources to grow

When the bamboo plant grows, it requires a lot less water (30% to be exact) than regular hardwood trees or other natural materials that are used to make products. This means there is less wasted water, and also less energy going into supplying any extra water when there is no natural abundance of rain.

Bamboo also requires less land to grow because it is self-generating. Using it to make our toilet paper reduces the deforestation currently caused by the production of regular toilet paper.

As bamboo plants are naturally self-generating, this means that they require no additional help to grow, or anything to speed up the process of growing. Therefore, there is no need for irrigation (which also uses and wastes lots of water) or fertiliser (which can be poisonous to humans and the earth’s ecosystems).
